The new Mondeo unveiled – the most technologically advanced Ford vehicle ever

Available as a 4-door and 5-door sedan and estate developed especially for Europe, the new Mondeo offers elegant design, supreme refinement, craftsmanship quality and technologies including adaptive LED headlights, rear inflatable seatbelts, multi-contour seats and more.
“The new Mondeo is the most technologically advanced Ford model ever introduced in Europe”, said Ulrich Koesters, Vehicle Line Director, Ford Europe. “Technologies such as Pre-Collision Assist and Pedestrian Detection ensure driver’s safety and security in the hectic traffic”.
Pedestrian Detection
The new Ford system – Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection - can detect people on or near the road ahead. The system detects pedestrians who are suddenly crossing the car’s path and if a collision is imminent, it automatically applies the brakes if the driver fails to respond to the warning. The system processes the information collected by the windscreen-mounted camera and the radar in the bumper and compares it to the database of “pedestrian silhouettes” in order to differentiate people from the usual landscape and objects on the road.
The widest engine range up until now
The petrol engines of the all-new Mondeo include the 1.5-litre EcoBoost and the 2.0-litre EcoBoost, as well as the fuel-efficient and surprisingly powerful 1.0-litre EcoBoost, which was named International Engine of the Year for the unprecedented third consecutive time.
The new Mondeo also offers the 2.0-litre TDCi diesel engine with a sequential twin turbocharger and 210 PS, 450 Nm torque. A model with ECOnetic technology driven by a 1.6-litre diesel engine with class-leading CO2 emissions of 94 g/km and a 2.0-litre TDCi diesel engine with 150PS or 180PS will also be available.
For the first time Mondeo is offered with 4x4, too. The all-wheel drive provides excellent traction, dynamics and handling in all road and weather conditions.
The fuel efficiency and emissions are improved for the entire Mondeo engine lineup by up to 14% assisted by various technologies, including the Active Front Grille.
Class-leading dynamics
The first model developed on Ford’s global D-platform – the all-new Mondeo – presents for the first time a new rear suspension configuration with an integral link for better refinement and more dynamic drive.
More robust body and modern materials
High-tech materials and manufacturing techniques have been used in the all-new Ford Mondeo, which provide better robustness, advanced safety, reduced weight and lower emissions.
Industry-first high-strength hydroformed steel has been used for the manufacturing of the A and B columns and the roof rails. The new magnesium structure of the tailgate in the 4-door and 5-door versions reduces the weight by 40% compared to the traditional steel equivalent.
Comfort and safety technologies
For the first time in Ford of Europe the new Mondeo presents Adaptive LED headlights. They combine bright LED lights with a dynamic system for adaptation to road conditions.
The technology chooses one of the seven settings depending on the speed of the vehicle, the outside lighting conditions, the cornering angle, the distance to the car ahead and whether the windscreen wipers have been activated. The headlights glow with a higher straighter beam with higher speed, and in the city they direct their light downwards for a better visibility of the road ahead. In low-speed cornering the technology directs the beam towards the outer side of the road to light up pedestrians and cyclists, and in high-speed cornering it focuses the light in the corner.
Ford’s industry-first Rear Inflatable Seatbelts make their European debut in the new Mondeo. In case of collision the seatbelts inflate abruptly in order to distribute the force of the impact over a 5-time bigger surface of the body than the conventional seatbelt.
Mondeo improves the comfort of the drivers with innovations such as the first in the class Electrical Adjustable Steering Wheel with Memory, multi-contour seats with a unique massaging “Active Motion” function and the SYNC 2 voice-activated technology.
Through the first in the segment advanced MyKey technology the owners of Mondeo can program the key of young drivers. MyKey can limit incoming calls and maximum speed, it doesn’t allow deactivation of the safety and driver assistance systems, limits the maximum volume of the audio system and doesn’t allow starting of the engine, if the driver and passenger are not wearing seatbelts.
The all-new Ford Mondeo was awarded the maximum 5-star safety rating by the independent organization Euro NCAP.
Supreme refinement, design and quality
So far Mondeo has the best quality and craftsmanship both of the refined, elegant, athletic and strongly expressive exterior, as well as of the interior, which possesses optimised ergonomics and comfort, premium elements and equipment.
Road noise reduction by approximately 3 decibels in the back and 2 decibels in the front has been achieved due to the new rear suspension configuration with an integral link and additionally noise-muffling materials, while wind noise has been reduced by 8% reaching levels that were recently territory only of luxury cars.
Inside the car Mondeo drivers are welcomed by the digital analogue instrument panel, while the sports wrap-around centre console creates a feeling of a cockpit.
With the hatchback, sedan and wagon versions, the astonishing design and quality and the engine range, which now also includes the hybrid version for the first time, Ford Mondeo has never been more tempting.
